When did this happen? I first noticed it in the movies Enchanted, but now Disney is using the phrase to refer to the re-release of Snow White, instead of calling it a fairy tale.

Polar Bears Oh My

There are people trying to send a case to the U.S. Supreme Court that would force the government to put polar bears on the endangered species list.

There is a site dedicated to the polar bear, and even they admit that of 19 "sub populations" of bears, there is evidence that only 5 of these groups show a decline in numbers and two of them show an increase.
Everyone admits however that over the last 50 years polar bear populations have increased, most estimates show they have at least doubled.

Polar bears are migratory, and even though conservationists have divided the population into sub groups, DNA analysis shows that the subpopulations interbreed.

Tracking bears is expensive and difficult because of the climate and polar bear behavior.

So, we have a population that has doubled in size, an animal that is difficult to track, and minimal evidence that the number of bears is declining (and even that would at worse reduce numbers back to 1970's numbers)

Yep, sounds like they need to be listed as endangered to me.

Veteran's Day

Today was Veteran's Day. Thank you to all the veterans out there.

What some of you may not know, is that originally today's holiday was called Armistice Day. It marked the official end of combat in World War I. Because communication was so much less sophisticated back then, they had to set a time in the future to cease hostilities to ensure that everyone got the word. So the ceasefire was set for the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month. It was changed to Veteran's Day to celebrate all of our veterans in 1952.

It's still celebrated as Armistice Day in France and Belgium.

It's a completely different holiday in other parts of Europe, including Germany, the Netherlands and Austria. It's St. Martin's Day, and celebrates a Catholic saint. (fittingly enough, he was once a Roman soldier)

In most of the Commonwealth (Including the UK, Canada and Australia) it's celebrated as Rememberance day.

Nutsroots V Democrats Pt.2

Rahm Emanuel is a mainstream Democrat who has apparently decided that we should enforce the laws that he helps write. So he is backing Tom Tancredo's bill to actually enforce our immigration laws. He is also using his influence to persuade other Democratic lawmakers to support the bill. Kos has decided that this either makes Emanuel a racist, or scared.

I'm betting a lot of the impetus for this attack stems for the animosity Kos has for Emanuel. Emanuel is a mainstream Democrat, a DNCer. Add to that his history with the Clinton administration and his Washington insider status. Emanuel has also had highly visible disagreements with nutsroots darling Howard Dean. Emanuel is exactly the type of Democrat Kos is attempting to hijack the Democratic Party from.

As to the ad hominen attacks. Why is it assumed that you are a racist if you want to enforce American laws? Calling someone a racist for wanting to fix the problem of illegal immigration doesn't even rise to the level of logical fallacy. It's Elementary playground material. As for scared, at least Emanuel had the balls to actually run for office, instead of sitting in his living room leaching off the mentally or emotionally unbalanced fringe members of a political party.

Update: Digging the hole even deeper. Read the comments, they're priceless. The nutroots are completely out of sync with mainstream America. It seems pretty clear at this point that they are going to force the Democatic leadership to pull defeat from the jaws of victory.

Supreme Court Gibberish

I'm watching a show on PBS about the Supreme Court. They're talking about Justice Field, and his opposition to the Income Tax. To paraphrase one of the commentators, "Field saw the Income Tax as the thin wedge of communism, and that if it was instituted the country the rsult would be the poor inventing laws to take money from the rich and give it to themselves." She said it in a tone that suggested how crazy this mean old coot was.

Isn't this exactly what happened?

Rep Jim Moran of Va. (D) wins it for two comments this month.

First on Tucker Carlson's show on MSNBC he repeatedly referred to Rep. Alcee Hastings (D) as "judge". This despite the fact that Hastings was impeached and removed (only the 17th person impeached, and the 7th judge removed since the founding of our country) for corruption. He was attempting to defend Rep. Pelosi's (D) efforts to jump Hastings ahead of Rep. Harmon (D) as chair of the House Intelligence Committee. It's bad enough that they want to put this criminal in charge of such a sensitive post, but to continue to call him "judge" is asinine.

Second, he threw his two cents into the Democratic leadership battle between Rep. Murtha (D) and Rep. Hoyer (D), apparently carrying water for Pelosi. He basically threatened the incoming freshmen Democratic representatives with retribution for their support of Hoyer.

So we see one way that Pelosi plans to keep from embarassing herself, she'll just let Moran look like a fool for her.

The newest TV ad for Phil Angelides (Democratic nominee for Calif. governor) is up and running. The first and last line of the ad is " He's a leader, not an actor". I wonder how all of the Liberal Democrats in Hollywood feel about that? How about Meathead (Rob Reiner) who has become a major Democratic player in California, and many think will run for governor eventually.

I'd love to know how that ad made it through the approval process. It's potentially damaging in two different ways:

1) It risks offending a major funding of support and money for the Democrats, Hollywood.

2) It reminds California of the other actor they had as governor, Ronald Reagan, who did a hell of a good job as governor. (and an even better job as president)

Update: Well, well, well. It seems that many of the Hollywood moguls have decided to switch their normal allegiance to the Democratic Party over to the actor instead. Hope whoever wrote that ad has updated their resume.

Some third-rate writer for the The Village Voice, Michael Feingold, was suppoosed to be writing a theater review about Ray Bradbury's Fahrenheit 451. Unfortunately, he decided to use the occasion to launch a typical Leftwing bed-wetter attack on Pres. Bush and the Republican leadership in Congress. He wrote:

"The Web's jangle of contradictory statements, arriving when our attention spans had already been shortened by television, at least partially explains the public apathy that keeps the most incompetent administration, and the most corrupt congressional majority, in American history comfortably in office."

In case you need a translation, he's saying that the American people are a bunch of mouth-breathing morons because they support an administration he disagrees with.

Hey Mikey, just shut the hell up and review the play numbnuts! It's bad enough that a writer would be unprofessional enough to include this comment in a theater review, but at least one editor had to OK it. This is exactly the type of thing Bernie Goldberg talks about though, these guys see nothing wrong with this crap, because eveyone they know thinks the same way, and does the same type of thing.

My only consolation is these guys are so removed from reality, they haven't realized yet that they are never going to win a national election again.

Is it even possible to be both queer and transgender? So let's say that Lesley (nice andro name by the way) was born a man. And he likes women, and wants to have sex with them. But for some reason he feels the need to become a woman, but still wants to have sex with women.

Given the above, how can (s)he claim to simply enjoy the feeling of being alive? There is clearly nothing at all simple about this person's life!

And I can't think of a better career for such a person than social justice.

OH Boy, the gift that keeps on giving is at it again. Julian Bond, (who had Kwasi Mfume thrown out of power in the NAACP for being too mainstream!) is still giving speeches and throwing rhetorical bombs. If a Republican said half the things he says about Blacks, or called Democrats the names he calls Republicans, it would be all over the media. As far as I know, the only MSM to cover Bond's remarks has been a tepid report by FoxNews.

Cindy Sheehan has announced that she is considering running against Sen Feinstein for her California Senate seat. Her biggest complaint is that Sen. Feinstein has and is supporting the war in Iraq.

Apparently if you are not in favor of immediately cutting and running, you aren't liberal enough. Personally I am all for it. Maybe it'll show some people just how radical the left is getting.

Sen. Feinstein has already been forced to go back on her word about allowing a vote on Judge Alito by the actions of Sen.s Kennedy and Kerry. When someone as liberal as Feinstein is forced to protect herself on the left, the lunatics are running the asylum.
